Dr. Benjamin Jeppsen is a counseling psychologist and a professor at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. Though he grew up a Batman fan, he didn’t really become a full-fledged Bat-nerd until the same time he started studying psychology. During the summer before his second year in psychology, Batman Begins was released worldwide. After just one viewing, he knew what he wanted to do. Like Ra’z Al Ghul, he wanted to help others find “the will to act” and “the courage to do all that’s necessary”, but like Bruce Wayne, he wanted to help them do it in a context consistent with an ethical code. Since then, he has been a Batman-evangelist to anyone who’ll listen: “Batman will change your life!” He has found inspiration from the famous character in many parts of his life, and as a counselor and professor, used many of the lessons from Batman to help others find the will to act and courage to change their lives.
He currently teaches counseling psychology courses and is writing Applied Batman Psychology—a book aimed at helping college students successfully make the transition to adulthood.
