David Prowse was born July 1, 1935 in Bristol, England. David was formerly a bodybuilder and weightlifter, and he is best known for playing the physical form of Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy. While the film was in production David spoke the dialogue, but was not the final voice of Darth Vader. When Prowse saw the movie in the cinema, he didn’t actually know Vader was Luke’s father until he watched it with everybody else.
Prowse is also known as the Green Cross Code Man, who is a superhero invented to promote a British road safety. Because of his association, he received the MBE in 2000.
David was spotted by George Lucas when he had the role of Alexander’s Bodyguard in the film Julian. Prowse later look on the role of Frankenstein’s monster in The Horror of Frankenstein and Frankenstein the Monster from Hell.
In 1978 Prowse helped train Christopher Reeve for the role of Superman. He also trained Cary Elwes for the role of Westley in The Princess Bride.
Prowse is happily married to his wife Norma and is the father of three children.
