Dean O’Gorman is an actor, artist, and photographer from New Zealand, best known for playing the dwarf Fíli in The Hobbit trilogy and for playing Anders Johnson in The Almighty Johnsons.
His acting career began in 1995 with the main role in teen romance Bonjour Timothy, a performance which earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Giffoni Film Festival. Subsequent roles included Mark in New Zealand drama When Love Comes and Johnny in Snakeskin, the latter of which received 5 awards at the 2001 New Zealand Film and Television Awards.
He won roles in both Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess multiple times, as well as holding a regular role as Iolaus in Young Hercules opposite Ryan Gosling, and in McLeod’s Daughters, as Luke Morgan. He has made multiple guest appearances on several television shows including The Cult, Go Girls, and Legend of the Seeker. From 2011–2013, O’Gorman played the role of Anders Johnson in the New Zealand fantasy series The Almighty Johnsons.
O’Gorman starred as the dwarf Fili in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, reprising his role in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies and in the video game LEGO: The Hobbit.
