Ian J. Johnston loves and has directed animation for over 10 years. Dreaming of one day becoming a relevant animator, (this was before the internet), he became self taught by getting animation materials wherever he could. Book stores, underground animation book cults, black market animation hovels, and friends. These skills translated into working for the gaming industry for 6 years as a character animator. As a high point, he shares the Emmy® nomination for The Aquabats Supershow in 2015. When not animating he performs on stage. He recently played Captain Hook in the West Side Theater Company’s production of “Peter Pan”. In 2007 he co-built an animation studio which provided various services for clients including Rovio (Angry Birds), DC, Disney, Mattel, The Women’s WorldCup, and HUB Network to name a few. He won Best Short film VFX at the Utah Film Awards in 2016. He graduated from Southern Utah University in 2000. Ian is currently working as Animation Director for Revity. He is also creating VFX for a film, and built animated backdrops for Hale Centre Theater in Sandy, UT. (Christmas Carol, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) He is known as an “idea-guy” and recently wrote his first film script for “Peripheral”, a horror film based on his night terrors and dreams. His Patreon page “The Dream Idea Drive” launched earlier this year. Ian is thankful for his talents and hopes to share his work for years to come. Thank you for reading!
