Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa is an American actor, model, director, writer, and producer. He is known for his television roles as Ronon Dex on the military science fiction television series Stargate Atlantis and as Khal Drogo in the HBO fantasy television series Game of Thrones. Momoa portrayed the title character in the sword and sorcery film Conan the Barbarian. He appeared in the superhero film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Aquaman.
Momoa was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and raised in Norwalk Iowa. After high school, Momoa began college as a marine biology major then transferred to wildlife biology. Before completing his degree he moved to Hawaii. Momoa traveled extensively as a young man, taking up Pastel Painting in Paris, and studying Buddhist teaching in Tibet. Momoa was discovered by international designer Takeo Kobayashi, who encouraged his modeling career. Momoa won Hawaii’s Model of the Year. He was working in a surf shop when he was cast as Jason Ioane in the television series Baywatch Hawaii.
Since then, Momoa has also starred in the dark comedy/thriller indie Sugar Mountain alongside fellow FanX17 guest Cary Elwes, the Sundance TV drama series The Red Road, The Bad Batch with Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey, Bullet to the Head with Sylvester Stallone, and two episodes of Drunk History.
Momoa directed and co-wrote Road to Paloma, an American drama thriller film that premiered at the 2014 Sarasota Film Festival.
Momoa will reprise his role as Aquaman in the upcoming Justice League and Aquaman movies.
