(Nerds and Beyond) Nerds and Beyond traveled to FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention this year — Utah’s largest comic convention — for a weekend of cosplay, fan art, and more. Notable guests among the massive star-studded lineup for this year included Spider-Man himself Tom Holland, Hayden Christensen of Star Wars, John Rhys-Davies from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the star of many cult classics, Christina Ricci. SALT LAKE CITY — The FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention was back for its fall event last weekend, and cosplay was bigger than ever.
Cosplay, short for "costume play," was once considered an activity for geeks. Cosplayers would come to conventions in handmade costumes, celebrating their favorite comics and video games. Others would look at them, amused at the out-of-season Halloween parade. Now, cosplay is enjoyed by everyone.
There are still hardcore cosplayers who dazzle everyone with larger-than-life costumes that include intricate details they spend months putting together.

(KUTV) — Imagine it: Boba Fett reading "Harry Potter"; the Hulk sitting on the toilet, or Darth Vader baking in the kitchen dressed in a Hufflepuff apron. An anonymous artist stole the show at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention with this kind of parody art.
"It's hilarious and people love it, " Nick Meagher, an employee of I Am Parody Art told 2News. "It's very fun to sell because people get such a kick out of it every time they come by. People just throw their heads back laughing."

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) -- Josh Isom found himself struggling with depression, disappointment and debt. To claw his way back from rock bottom, Isom decided to embark on a creative journey that saw him build a massive statue of the popular Marvel Comics character the Hulk. (KUTV) — Sebastian Roché's appearance at the FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention was nothing short of an epic mixture of stand-up comedy and traveling through cinema history.
Roché has an impressive acting resume, having performed in several productions dating back to the 1980s. He is best known for portraying Kurt Mendel on "Odyssey 5" (2002), Thomas Jerome Newton on "Fringe" (2008), Michel Marivaux on "The Young Pope" (2016), Balthazar on "Supernatural" (2005), and Mikael on both "The Vampire Diaries" (2009) and "The Originals" (2013).

People nearly hyperventilating with excitement, and with photos, were circulating. Holland wasn't the only celebrity fans were delighted to welcome to Utah, but he was probably the most high profile.

The fall FanX 2019 is underway at the Salt Palace Convention Center. The first big ballroom appearance was at 2 p.m. featuring John Rhys-Davies of "Indiana Jones" and "Lord of the Rings" fame.

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — One of Utah's biggest events raised its curtain Thursday, for a three-day celebration of popular culture.
The annual convention returns to Salt Lake City with a list of stars, including John Rhys-Davies who opened the main stage in the Grand Ballroom with a sizzle reel and stories of his work on "Lord of the Rings" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark."
